The Emerging Photographer Grant is BigPicture’s program supporting young artists with fresh visual approaches to the science, conservation, and regeneration of the natural world. Grantees receive a stipend, mentorship, and exhibition of their work at the Academy.
Lianna Nixon, age 25, is a graduate student in Boulder, Colorado, and the media coordinator for the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition. Her project, “Letters to the Arctic,” will take viewers aboard this arctic expedition where she will investigate the personal stories of the scientists and crew to explore the intersection of identity, science, and the natural world.
Rishabh Jaggi, age 24, is a research biologist and passionate nature photographer and filmmaker from Delhi, India. His project, “Conservation and Adaptations of Faunal Species at Pong Dam Lake Wetland,” will use photography to explore the interspecific interactions among species such as the high-flying bar-headed goose, the opportunistic feeder the golden jackal, and the humans who live and fish at this lake that falls within the Central Asian Flyway, located at the foot of the Himalayas.
